The 3rd Hong Kong World Youth Science Conference and Xiangjiang Nobel Forum were held in Hong Kong from 11 to 15 April 2026. The event was hosted by the Hong Kong Alumni Association of Beijing Universities and brought together leading international scholars, Nobel laureates, and emerging researchers from around the world.

Professor Gabriel Xiao-Guang Yue, IAOE member and Secretary-General of the International Engineering and Technology Institute (IETI), was invited to attend and speak at the roundtable forum.

At the forum, Professor Yue engaged in an in-depth exchange with Professor Wai-Kwong Lee, Vice President of City University of Hong Kong; Professor Sir Andre Geim, Nobel Laureate in Physics; Academician Qingquan Chen of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; Academician Ryad Chellali of the Italian Institute of Technology; Academician Giulio Chiribella of the University of Hong Kong; and Academician Song Guo of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. During the discussion, Professor Yue emphasized the importance of supporting young scientists not only academically, but also personally and professionally. He proposed that young researchers should seek five different kinds of mentors: an academic mentor, an industry mentor, an international mentor, a psychological mentor, and a life mentor. He further encouraged young scientists to pursue a healthy work-life balance and to pay close attention to both physical and mental well-being. Looking ahead, Professor Yue highlighted his vision for the future of technology, noting that it will become increasingly smarter, more inclusive, and more benevolent.

The conference also brought together an exceptional group of internationally renowned scientists, including nine Nobel Prize and Turing Award laureates:

  • Professor Brian Paul Schmidt, 2011 Nobel Laureate in Physics

  • Professor Michael Houghton, 2020 Nobel Laureate in Physiology or Medicine

  • Professor Michael Levitt, 2013 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry

  • Professor Timothy Hunt, 2001 Nobel Laureate in Physiology or Medicine

  • Professor Sir Andre Konstantin Geim, 2010 Nobel Laureate in Physics

  • Professor Gregg Leonard Semenza, 2019 Nobel Laureate in Physiology or Medicine

  • Professor Konstantin Sergeyevich Novoselov, 2010 Nobel Laureate in Physics

  • Professor Harvey James Alter, 2020 Nobel Laureate in Physiology or Medicine

  • Professor Avi Wigderson, 2023 Turing Award laureate
