The VISIR and Hive remote laboratories recently supported the workshop “Virtual and Remote Laboratories: Digital Resources for Teaching Physics” at the Integrated Meetings in Physics Teaching 2025—an event combining the IV National Meeting of the National Master’s Degree in Physics Teaching (ENMNPEF) and the IX Brazilian School of Physics Teaching (EBEF). The workshop, held July 23–26, 2025 at the Federal University of Ceará (UFC) in Fortaleza, gathered 56 students for two days of interactive exploration of online experimentation.
More information about the event is available here, or by contacting Prof. Juarez Bento da Silva (UFSC) at juarez.silva@ufsc.br.
Beyond this event, the VISIR and Hive laboratories continue to play a vital role in teacher education across Brazil. They are currently used in two courses coordinated by the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC) and the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS):
-
“Innovating in Education with Digital Skills and Remote Labs”—with 371 enrolled participants, mainly elementary school teachers;
-
“Online Labs in Education”—a graduate-level course reaching 28 students from the programs in Computer Science in Education (PPGIE) and Education (PPGEDU).
Details about these courses can be given by contacting Prof. Juarez Bento da Silva (UFSC).
These initiatives are part of the broader work of the VISIR Federation, whose mission is to interconnect VISIR nodes worldwide and provide seamless access to remote experiments and shared learning materials through a common platform. The Federation aims to expand VISIR’s application range, improve its utilization, and strengthen collaboration between institutions and educators.
The IAOE is proud to see such continued progress in advancing remote experimentation and supporting educators in developing digital competencies for future-ready science and engineering education.
