IAOE's Honorary President Doru Ursutiu elected Full Member of the Academy of Romanian Scientists

Prof. Dr. Phys. Doru Ursutiu is an internationally renowned physicist and educator, recognized for his outstanding contributions to physics, electronics, and engineering education. He just was elected Full Member of the Academy of Romanian Scientists (AOSR) as a central figure in the development of remote engineering and virtual instrumentation in Europe.

He earned his Bachelor’s and Ph.D. in Physics from Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. His doctoral research focused on noise and fluctuations in electronic systems and devices. He further enhanced his expertise through training in open and distance learning (LOLA) at Heriot-Watt University, UK.

Academic and Scientific Contributions

  • Currently, he is a professor at “Transilvania” University of Brașov, Romania.
  • He leads the Center for Valorization and Transfer of Competence (CVTC) and the Creativity Laboratory, where he promotes innovation in engineering education.
  • His research interests span Physics, Electronics, Graphical programming, Virtual Instrumentation, and Remote-Control engineering.
  • Prof. Ursutiu has been instrumental in promoting online and remote engineering, helping bridge gaps in global access to technical education.

International Leadership 

  • Former President of the International Association of Online Engineering (IAOE).
  • Member of the Executive Committee of the Central European Chapter of AACE (Association for the Advancement of Computing in Education).
  • Founding editor of the prestigious International Journal of Online Engineering (iJOE).
  • He has also served as organizer and coordinator of leading international conferences like REV (Remote Engineering and Virtual Instrumentation) and ICL (Interactive Collaborative Learning).
  • In 2013, he received the title of "International Engineering Educator" (ING.PAED.IGIP) from the International Society for Engineering Pedagogy (IGIP).
  • In 2019, he was awarded the "Nikola Tesla Gold Medal" at the IGIP-ICL conference in Bangkok for outstanding achievements in engineering education.

Prof. Ursutiu's work has had a lasting impact on modern engineering education, particularly in promoting Remote Laboratories, e-Learning technologies, and Open educational resources. His career reflects a rare blend of scientific rigor, innovation, and dedication to global education.

In March 2026, Prof. Ursutiu will host the 23rd International Conference on Smart Technologies & Education (STE2026) at “Transilvania” University of Brașov, Romania.
